A strong resume opens doors. Use these proven tips to make yours stand out to recruiters and ATS systems.
Tailor every application
Customize your resume for each job you apply to. Mirror the keywords in the job description to pass applicant tracking systems (ATS) and catch a recruiter's eye.
Lead with a strong summary
Your opening summary should describe who you are and what you bring in 2–3 compelling sentences. Skip the generic objective statement — tell employers what you do best.
Quantify your achievements
Replace vague duties with measurable results. Instead of "managed social media," write "grew Instagram following by 40% in 6 months, driving $30K in additional revenue."
Keep it to one or two pages
Hiring managers spend an average of 6 seconds on a first scan. Keep your resume clean, concise, and easy to read — cut anything older than 10 years or irrelevant to the role.
Use action verbs
Start every bullet point with a strong verb: led, built, launched, reduced, negotiated, designed. It immediately conveys confidence and ownership of your work.
Proofread meticulously
Spelling or grammar errors are automatic disqualifiers for many employers. Read your resume backwards, use spell-check, and always ask a trusted friend to review it.
